RBC kicks off employee giving campaign with major donation to UW

RBC branches in Lethbridge and area are gearing up to begin their annual employee giving program and it began Wednesday with breakfast for RBC staff and a significant donation to United Way of Lethbridge & South Western Alberta.

On Wednesday, November 16, Trudy Carrels, United Way’s executive director accepted $17,000 from the RBC Foundation to put towards United Way’s Community Fund and programs for individuals and families in the community.

The funds, presented by RBC’s Small Business Sales Manager, Sheri Kain and main branch manager, Doug Camrud, are just the beginning of RBC’s annual giving program.  Camrud encouraged all staff to make a contribution, no matter the size.

“We feel good when we give back to the community we live in. Even if you choose to give modestly, it still makes a difference,” he said.

Carrels reinforced that, stating, “Each year, United Way is asked for over a $1M in funding and we expect that request to increase as more people move into the city, and more needs in the community come up and are better understood. It’ll take all of us working together to keep things moving forward.”

Since 2011, the RBC Foundation and RBC employees have given over $85,000 in support of over 30 local organizations through United Way, and are on track to reach over $100,000 by 2018.
