When most people hear "Board of Directors," they think: not me. I'm not qualified. I'm not wealthy enough. I'm not in the right circles.

We've heard that, and we want to challenge it. Let’s rethink who belongs at a board table.

United Way Lethbridge & South Western Alberta is looking for new board members ahead of our Annual General Meeting this summer. The people we most want to hear from are people like you.

Our community is growing and changing rapidly. In Lethbridge, thousands of children are growing up below the poverty line. Food insecurity affects roughly 1 in 4 people in Canada, and Alberta is no exception. The work we fund, from Big Brothers Big Sisters to Safe Haven Women's Shelter to the Interfaith Food Bank, happens because people like you decide to get involved.

What joining the UW board really looks like:
- Monthly meetings up to 2 hours long. We usually rest in December and August.
- Service on one committee, with 6 to 10 meetings per year.
- A personal financial contribution at a level meaningful to you.
- A collaborative, welcoming group. No stuffy boardroom energy here.

Not the right time for a full board commitment? We also welcome people onto committees, where you can contribute your skills and get mentored by a board member. Young people under the age of majority are encouraged to reach out about our youth committee, currently under construction.

This is an especially meaningful time to join as we are in a leadership transition. The people who come on board now will genuinely help shape the next chapter of United Way in this region.
