Drop’n Beats

The first ever Drop’n Beats Youth Conference came to theSik-Ooh-Kotoki Friendship Centre Friday with performances by some well-known hip hop artists and local talent scheduled.
Drop’n Beats is a McMan Youth, Family and Community Services program designed to empower youth through creative expression.
Started by Damon Van Ginneken, former hip hop artist and now a youth worker with McMan, the program has just finished its first full year of operation. The youth conference was organized as a year-end celebration.
Partial funding for the Drop’n Beats program is provided by the United Way of Lethbridge & South Western Alberta.  The program provides youth between the ages of 12-19 from low income and/or troubled homes, with a safe and secure environment to explore and record musical projects. This gives these at risk youths an outlet to focus their energies on productive and creative objectives, deterring them from becoming involved with any pre-gang activities, alcohol and drug abuse, school disruptions or early involvement within the criminal justice system.
