#YQL Expressions of Reconciliation Art and Media Contest

The United Nations has declared 2019 as the International Year of Indigenous Languages. Contest submissions must incorporate the theme of INDIGENOUS LANGUAGE.

The contest is now OPEN for submissions.

1st Prize - $350 (Sponsored by Reconciliation Lethbridge)   |   2nd Prize - $200 (Sponsored by United Way)   |   3rd Prize - $150 (Sponsored by L.I.S.N.)

Submission Deadline: Friday, November 1, 2019   |   5:00pm

Examples of works accepted: Paintings, drawings, videos (max. 10 minutes), songs, poetry, photography, short stories (max. 5,000 words), essays, digital compositions, mixed media, sculptures (max. 20lbs.), weaving, needlepoint. Please contact us about submissions that are not similar to any of these types.

This contest is open to ALL residents of Lethbridge and south western Alberta. A completed copy of the SUBMISSION FORM MUST accompany your submission. One submission per artist. Individuals and groups may collaborate on a submission; however winning submissions will be awarded one cash prize only.

Submissions may be physical or digital, at the artist’s discretion, and depending on the type of work.

Physical submissions (ex: paintings, sculptures, needlepoint…) may be delivered to United Way (1277 – 3 Ave. S. Lethbridge). Digital submissions (ex: essays, songs, photographs…) may be made by email to together@lethbridgeunitedway.ca.

Winners will be announced to the public during the week of November 19, 2019. Winning artists will be contacted to arrange pick-up dates which will follow a public display period at the Lethbridge Public Library. In addition to a cash prize, winning submissions and an artist profile will be featured on social media. All other submissions may be retrieved from the United Way office following the November 19 announcement.

By submitting to this contest, artists give United Way permissions to publicly display their work with name attached. Although there will only be three winners, each submission is valued and recognized as a step towards reconciliation in the community, and we thank all artists for their work!
